Just a little debate now:
Do you think that we would be better off if social networking sites would have never been invented?
Take into consideration things such as safety, and on the other hand, the positive side of them, like being able to socialise.
Thank you.
Are your children safe online?
they are safe if their parents teach them to not act stupidly online
Reply:Children are definitely not safe on some on-line sites but is it possible to prevent them from accessing these sites by using the 'parent control' option? I am not aware of how effective this would be, but there is a concern that children using social networking do not know who they are making contact with - anyone could provide photographs of children and present them as themselves and fabricate an entire fake history, etc; It would be interesting to know if more children are placed at risk on the net, or when outside of the home.
Reply:Kids are safe if they are taught properly.
We were always taught never to talk to strangers. So why talk to strangers online?
Don't they have friends on MSN or Facebook or something?
Reply:Yes i am 13 and have msn and facebook and all of that stuff. I speak to anyone on msn but i would never meet or give them to much details about myself. I think we can be trusted lol it depends what you have broughts your kids up to do, i have known from being young what i should and shouldn't do!
Reply:My children are 6, 6 and 9 so I don't have to worry about social networking, but I like to think they've been taught to use the web responsibly (and I still have plenty of time until they get to the "dodgy" teenage years). They surf/search the Internet on their own (they all use google on their own initiative) and know to ask me about any login or popup screen they haven't seen before.
I can understand your concern though.
Reply:Probably far safer than hanging out at the park attracting pedophiles.
