Internet Bullies Beware...?

...do you think anybody on here should be worried?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht...

Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles are considering charging a woman with defrauding MySpace for allegedly setting up a fake account and harassing a Missouri teenager who killed herself after receiving cruel messages on the site, according to reports.

A federal grand jury has subpoenaed Beverly Hills-based MySpace as part of a probe into the suicide of Megan Meier, 13, who thought she was communicating with a 16-year-old boy on the social networking site, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The messages turned out to be fake sent from an account overseen by the mother of a former friend of the girl.

Megan, from suburban St Louis, Missouri, hanged herself in her bedroom after receiving upsetting messages from a fictional boy she had befriended online, including one which said the world would be better off without her.

Internet Bullies Beware...?
the tip of a very big ice burg i think. this Internet thing is just getting bigger and bigger, from actions like this, to young girls stripping on cam for cash. someone needs to start sorting it out big style i think. lot of predators on here unfortunately. yet people especially the young just don't seem to take commonsense care to protect themselves.
Reply:I have a pathetic stalker--hope he sees this.
Reply:I'm sorry to hear about the girl but lets face it, any one even at 13 who kills them self over what some boy who they have never met sent to them over the net has got to have had problems all along.

this girl should not of been allowed to be on the net if she was that messed up, i have been in chat rooms and pretended to be a girl or older women and played jokes on my friends, the only difference is my friends and the people i played my jokes on did not go out and kill them self as far as i know.

I'm sorry but we are told all the time not to believe anything that you are told by someone on the Internet this girl let her guard down and it cost her, her life, that's to bad but its down to her.
Reply:That happens, I got some myself on myspace from some white KKK guy saying I was a disgrace to the white race for marrying outside of the white race. Wish I could show you what I wrote back to the racist. There are some on all these sites that think they are super looking people are something.
Reply:gosh thats awful bullying is bullying in any form-i hope that person is real proud of themselves
Reply:That is disgusting!! What would possess someone to be so horrible to a person, that they would kill themselves?

People who do this should be punished severely. They have, in effect, murdered that little girl. If they hadn't have set up that account and posted those messages, she would still be alive.

Disgraceful.
Reply:I don't know if that woman did anything illegal. Maybe she did defraud the MySpace people. That might get her some punishment for what she did. You forgot to mention that Megan was a challenged young lady and the woman knew she had emotional problems. The worse thing about this is that this was an adult acting like a spoiled child. She has not even apologized to the girl's parents. They live on the same block and she can't take 2 minutes to tell these grieving parents that she is sorry for harassing their daughter. I hope she knows she has to live with having caused this death for her entire life. I hope she lives a very long time.
Reply:This is terrible. I feel outraged and saddend over this pointless death. What a truly wicked woman. I hope she is justly charged with something. I'm sure it's happend befor. We can't let this go on. We need to restrict the internet or change it somehow to make it a safer place. Perhaps the use of ID's linked with some other aspect of their lives could be used to identify people. Being annonymous is all very nice and well but not at the expense of others. There are too many wicked, ill or corrupt people out there and young people can't be expected to be knowledgable and wise at their age, though admittedly some are surprisingly so.
Reply:That and the Federal law against annoying someone over the internet. Fun fun fun, but I hate laws that are written ambiguously on purpose.
Reply:Horribly sad story. I don't know how the dead girl's family will be able to come to terms with their loss.

How frightening.
Reply:i haven`t been a member of this community for very long-but as i am `very` wary of `all` sites now-i check them out before getting `too involved`!

i have found that there are a few `muppets` true-but very few-plus members get to know each other-i hasten to point out-`without` giving out all their private info.

you tell as much as!

there is also-no a-l`g-a very good abuse complaint procedure in situ-and a good team that act accordingly.

check for yourself procedure for creating an `account` on this site!

unfortunately in this age we cannot `trust` as we used to-all personal info having a price on it-sad-as usual it all comes down to money!

this site is not akin to my space etc-it has no cash value-why i will continue to use it.

glad to hear that something is being done-alas as again `as usual` too late!
Reply:The world is getting worse and worse. That mother is a disgrace to allow her child to behave in that way. What hope do our kids have when some parents behave in this way. I think children need to be supervised on the net where ever possible.
Reply:I would highly doubt anyone on here would ever do such a heinous thing; the mother should be imprisoned for the rest of her life. That is grotesque.
Reply:hopefully some user would see this

the bully should be shot dead, no questions
Reply:Good. Folk on here think they can bullie anyone into saying politically correct thingies, when they could just not reply. They are so prude and naive atimes, shudder i to thonk what the world will be like in a 100 or so years.
Reply:An adult harassing a teenager!

Now where have I heard that before?

This is just as tragic as the last you posted, i hope she gets whats coming to her

she is responsible for this
Reply:Saying things like "she should have been stronger", "it's only words", "it's not REAL!", or "she obviously had problems anyway" does not make up for the death of a child, nor does it make an excuse for someone who could drive her to it.
Reply:It is getting so ridiculous is the Internet. I once used to enjoy coming on it, but now I only visit various sites.
Reply:I've heard of this case before and I think it's absolutely appalling that a grown woman, and a mother too, would do something like this. Kids bullying each other is bad enough, but this really is sickening. I don't know how she can live with herself.
Reply:hang yourself, man!!!

okay, you made your point!!! now stop posting the same question.
