What is the point of Yahoo answers?

If you have a question you can google it and recieve precise researched responses. There is Wikipedia and numerous other online resourses. I did originaly think answers might be fun but apparantly fun is strictly against the rules of Y/A. Answers that are chatty are deleted so that eliminates any possibility of a social network. So what is the point. It seems to me that Yahoo are using the answers site as an excuse to deactivate accounts and so generate new accounts that gives the stockmarket the impression of burgeoning popularity. A quick scan of the internet shows that Y/A account deletion is a scandal that is discussed all over the internet. Yahoo`s reputation is being dragged through the mud and the potential worth of the Y/A site is negated by the consant deletions. If we are supposed to just ask robot questions and give robot answers that we have looked up on google it`s hard to see the point.

Reply:Yes you can always "Google" your answers, but Y/A is kinda like asking old friends.
Reply:The point of Yahoo Answers, my dear, is to make me giggle. And, if I may say so, it's been doing a heck of a job!

*blows kisses*
Reply:The point of yahoo answers is to get real answers from real people who know the answer to the question. You can't always rely on google to give you answers.
Reply:it is nice to see how different people answer different questions... i haven't asked many questions but i do enjoy reading the answers to posted questions... some are too intellectual, some are just matter of fact, some are really funny that i know they can make the reader laugh, some are out of this world... etc...
Reply:For us to make fun of people we don't like: Barry Bonds, Kobe Bryant, etc. It gives me a forum to use my irreverent sense of humor to berate them !
Reply:what have they deleted this time ,Stooge had the same question.

But it is a bunch of adversaries who hunt in packs, its just a ferking computer you get a said amount of flags and off to the toilette goes your a or q ,thats why I have made my profile private ,so they delete maybe a question or answer but not the whole account..... unless you have a snitch in your friends list which I look pretty darn good at first. And keep it to 12-14
Reply:some people have no life and the only people they are able to express their opinions too are people like you and me.
Reply:Y!A was a response to Google Answers.

Whatever lofty goals they initially had has been lost amid point-gaming scandals, an insane deletion rate, a misunderstanding of the term "suspension", no second chances, an ocean of trolls that seemingly cannot be reined in and the perception that the staff doesn;t really care about anyone or anything.

Keep in mind that Y!A could do something about all this IF THEY WANTED TO. I have seen nothing to indicate they think they have a problem
Reply:So you can get other people to do all your google-ing work for you. And it is quite fun to see who posts the stupid stuff that could be against the rules of Y/A.

P.s. if you don't get the point of Y/A why are you still on it?

:]
Reply:Sometimes YA's cannot always give you the right answers, I always check up after wards with either google or wikipedia. I find it is fun though.
Reply:It's mostly bragging rights.
Reply:The point is to build up a type of community that will have users keep coming back to Yahoo, and maybe those users will start to use other parts of Yahoo. There will be more people to click on the Yahoo ads, and that will make more money for Yahoo.
Reply:You're perfectly right, I think we should have another F party (the F standing for Freedom-of-speech or Farewell-Yahoo-Account)
Reply:i like yahoo answer.....it fun
Reply:Get different opinions and views of other people, some people cannot acess those sites. Too lazy to do it.
Reply:Very interesting. Reading this question makes me wonder also. I really do believe this is a question worth asking.
Reply:this is more fun
Reply:trying to generate traffic

gain repeat users to look at their ads and use their search engine

gain customer loyalty

There's a business reason behind this. THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH...(yet I'm eating it)
Reply:To piss off enough people necessary to start two new opposing Y!Religions.

Long live the resistance! Long Y!Live The Church of Bipolar Opposition. Y!Death to The New Penfoldian Undies and The Aholy Trinity! Down with the oppresors of the Y!Stupid!
Reply:I use Yahoo! Answers when I can't find the answer to something by googling it. So far I've always been able to get the answer by posting it on here....
Reply:I think you really have something here.

Goodbye Yahoo Answers!
Reply:Variety is spice of Life , so you have alternate answer to your questions
Reply:senor El Penfold... you is one big idealist, like one big Rheumatic (damn) Romanticist... the Y!A is run by political correctness police (they call disabled people "differently abled"), now before I get my t!ts in the wringer, I am disabled, and never objected to anybody calling me that. I am also sure they call short people *vertically challenged*. Unfortunately it is an outfit run by immature, lame, intellectually challenged brigade. They never say what they mean, as they are afraid to mean what they say. Check out the little kimono-clad rodent you see sometimes when you log in... you know what the *question* he?she? posed today was ? "do you celebrate pride?" what the hell is that supposed to mean ?

it pranced and pissed and moaned around until I realized it was referring to gay pride parade... good god !!!

I probably will lose my account for this, but so what.

Public discourse has been reduced to exchanges so crippled by testicularly challenged political correctnes corps as to be immaterial and insignificant.

as for the Yahoo corps,

Vaia con la chancha !
Reply:To make you ask questions.
Reply:Thats a reeaally good point.....I never really thought about that before.
Reply:People have personal experiences that have happened throughout their lifetimes which most aren't posted on the Internet. Someone else who is asking a question may want to know how other people handled that situation to prepare for their own.
Reply:It is fun to read the silly answers
Reply:Real People, asking questions.

Real People, answering.

It is that simple, but Oh such a vast difference.
Reply:the point is,for the persuit of knowlidge

c yah oo
Reply:Don't believe alot of people see the point of this.It was put here for helping others with real problem's they are having. But somewhere along the line people have turned it into a game and chat room. They should have not had a point system for answer's.Questions should be of info you need not just something you have made up or thought of for the fun of it.An answer should be to the question to help not make fun of others or just to make a comment for two point's.Deactivation comes from some of the people flagging others for no reason most of the time, just to be funny.I just try to help others and forget the point's.Have a good day.
