Do you think the people behind sites such as facebook, Myspace and windows live messenger will be using the sdk to build apps for the iphone/itouch?
If so, hopefully they will offer them for free like they are online.

Yes the will, and they'll be made available via the new App Store planned for iTunes.
The social networking tools will be provided free. It's in there interest to offer these to their users at no cost.
