Can U.S. employers force their staff to use a social networking site?

I can't find any info on this and the labor board is not sure how to handle it either. Can an employer demand an employee to use a social networking site like LinkedIn or Facebook? Some employees do not feel comfortable posting their info and having strangers contact them online. This feels like a violation of privacy. Any legal tips or experience with this? It's causing a huge debate here.

Is this personal info? If it's related to work, they can. If its ethical to make people is debatable.
