Myspace vs. curfew laws?

who else thinks that myspace %26amp; other online social networks challenges the intent of laws imposed on minors, such as curfew laws or statutory rape?

i think all are dangerous, if not even more dangerous online. kids are getting exploited everyday, and it's harder for parents to protect their children...especially if their kids have their own laptops---which they can be on until the break of dawn if they want.

i think parents need to talk to their children more about this. it's getting even more outrageous now that sick pervs are actually meeting kids in person. especially when they pose as "teenage" boys--and agree to meet someone's daughter after school somewhere. the curfew law would do nothing to prevent this...

Myspace vs. curfew laws?
Perverts who are after minors are ALWAYS going to be there, nothing to do about that. but, keep the prey away from the predator. That is a smart idea. I feel cutting freedom away from underage persons is a smart idea. The reason for that is because there is always someone out there who is going to try to harm them. protect the future.
Reply:i think both are equivalent in today's context
Reply:MySpace and other online social networks are not responsible for those things....Parents have to take responsibility for their child's laptop and put it up.

I get really tired of people blaming internet sites for things kids do unsupervised....the internet or anything on it CAN NOT harm anyone. The boogy man can't come through the screen and get you. Meeting strangers online can be dangerous and every child and adult should be educated about doing such things. MySpace IS NOT dangerous , Y!Answers is not dangerous..."prettyboy15845" that you meet online then go meet at the mall just might be dangerous....so don't go meet him !!!!!!!

Do you need the government to step in to tell you that ?

Just how far do you want the government to go ? People should be able to take care of their own lives. The government already has too much control over what the public can and can't do.

Now this is getting into basic American rights.

My kids don't get on any part of the internet without supervision. Therefore ....unless someone crawls through my window and breaks into my house the old fashion way while I'm asleep, my kids are in no danger. And if that happens it won't be because I let my kids use the internet.

And by the way..."that guy" below is right...curfew laws are to keep kids off the streets, not the internet.
Reply:As far as I always knew, curfew laws were intended to keep kids "off the street" late at night. I don't think that's changed, and if you're concerned about your child sitting on the computer all night there are many different ways to fix that starting with not putting a computer in the kid's room.
Reply:Its not myspace's fault, there's no one to blame but the parents, they should know what sites their kids go into, I mean myspace isnt the only site where u can meet people theres thousands of chatting sites where everybody comes across sick perverts. Its the parents responsibility to take care of their children.
Reply:it is the responsibility of the parents to enforce any "laws" on their children, not internet sites or government.
Reply:i think u've got everything covered here... so whats ur question again???
